White Story 2024 Artist Residency

White Story 2024 Artist Residency

For over two decades, Fiona Myer, Founder and Creative Director of White Story, has nurtured a profound relationship with the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), a connection that has enriched both her personal and professional endeavours. This bond is deeply rooted in her co-founding of the Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery, a space dedicated to the celebration and support of emerging artistic talent.

Since the inception of White Story, Fiona has extended her commitment to fostering creativity by establishing an annual Artist Residency program, awarded to exceptional students from the VCA. This residency offers a unique opportunity for these emerging artists to immerse themselves in the vibrant creative environment of White Story’s Cremorne design studio. It’s a space where imagination flourishes, and where the artists can explore and develop their practice during a pivotal time in their careers.

This year, we were honoured to welcome the talented Britt Salt into our studio as the latest recipient of the residency. Britt’s work, characterised by her expertise in tapestry, installation, and sculpture, resonated deeply with the ethos of White Story. Her focus on handcrafted processes and her commitment to meticulous craftsmanship echo the principles that underpin our brand.

David Sequeria, Director of the Fiona & Sidney Myer Gallery, eloquently captured the essence of Britt’s work within our creative space: “The White Story studio is a place of rich creative experimentation, where the sensory and intuitive realms coexist. Britt Salt’s black steel sculptures echo the confidence and clarity of this sensibility.”

Britt’s finished works, particularly her piece titled Living Grid, embody a beautiful and precise simplicity that aligns seamlessly with the philosophy of White Story.

As David Sequeria aptly put it, “There is a natural affinity between Britt Salt’s work and the philosophy of White Story.”

We are incredibly proud to have supported Britt Salt through this residency and to have played a role in the creation of her stunning new works. Congratulations to Britt on her remarkable achievements, and we look forward to seeing where her artistic journey takes her next.
